Founded in 1881, Penrith Swimming Club is a community club that encompasses a learn to swim programme, competitive squads and a strong junior water polo section.

The club was originally based at Frenchfield, swimming in the river Eamont with training sessions involving great variations of conditions including icy water, strong currents, obstacle like weeds and the odd eel or two provided the ultimate test of stamina. In 1931, Penrith Swimming Club held the World Record of the largest swimming club with a membership of 1,140.

It was all a far cry from conditions for today’s training sessions, held at Penrith Leisure Centre. With a membership of around 130, the pool provides the focus for the busy, highly active club.

Prior to SwimClub Manager, Penrith Swimming Club was mostly run using a paper based filing system with the odd spreadsheet as well. The main issues that occurred was the difficulty to find information, it was a huge task to keep spreadsheets up to date, communicating information with members was also very hard and normally involved shouting at parents from poolside! Our website had become outdated and the old system we used would no longer allow us to update it.

After implementing SwimClub Manager, what benefits did you see with regards to managing your club?

Members had access to their own account, making it easier to get codes of conducts signed, details are also up to date and very accessible by club officials. Attendance is great and we now complete it every session instead of a sign in system which swimmers always forgot!

It’s much easier to communicate with swimmers through the automatically populated mailing lists. The website is easy to maintain and update and is very intuitive. The ability to do trial requests without having received the paper copy by post!

What specific feature of SwimClub Manager do you love most and why?

Them all – it makes the club much easier to organise we now have time to do things we never got round to doing!
